Description

A fine quality 18th century mantel clock by noted family of clockmakers Lepine. An elegant white marble arched base with feet and finials. A well cast case with bird amongst foliage and a torch. A large convex enamel dial with 5 minute outer markers and well made intricate gilt hands. A convex glass to the rear. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the 1/2 hours and hours on a bell. An outside striking count wheel and engraved 'Lepine' to the lower of the mechanism and enamel dial. Circa 1790.

The Lepine family of Clockmakers are well documented in Tardy's 'Horologers Francais' book and illustrated in Kjellberg's 'La Pendule Francais' book. They worked from 1710 and examples can be seen in museums and collections around the World. This example dates to circa 1790.
