Description

An early French brass cased striking and repeating carriage clock by Hollingue. A brass case with an enamel dial. Roman numerals and 'moon' blued steel hands. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours and 1/2 hours on a gong. Stamped to the mechanism 'H.L' and numbered 5840. The original lever escapement. Push button repeating. Circa 1870.

The H.L. mark on the mechanism front plate is the makers Holingue frères who were suppliers of both movements and clocks to many fine horologists including Drocourt, Paul Garnier, Moise Bollviller and Athanase Bourdin. Holingue workshops were purchased by Drocourt in 1875 with the movements prior to this date marked H.L. This number 5840 is an early example circa 1870.
