Description

A rare Georgian wooden dial twin fusee wall clock. A substantial double fusee mechanism striking the hours on a bell. The original steel rod and brass bob pendulum. A cast brass bezel. A mahogany case with crossbanding to the shaped base. .A 14" wooden dial with lovely original patina signed 'Alex Purvis North Audley St Grosvenor Square London ' with original brass hands. Twin side doors with silk backed brass fretwork and an opening bottom door. Circa 1820.
Alexander Purvis is recorded as working in North Audley Street, Grosvenor Square, London from circa 1820, and likely before this. He worked until 1844.

An Alexander Purves is recorded as being apprenticed to Robert Mason from the 12th of July 1802 in Edinburgh for the sum of £3 for five years, and it may be possible that this is the same maker..
