Description

A Victorian drop dial twin fusee wall clock. A rarer example striking the hours on a bell and the quarters. A mahogany case with choice flame veneers of pale colour and the original side carvings. A cast brass bezel surround to the dial. A 14" painted dial signed 'J L Meyer, Bristol' with blued steel 'moon' hands. Twin side doors and an opening bottom door. An 8-day duration double fusee mechanism striking the hours on a bell of high quality and 'ting-tang' quarters on a 2nd bell. A great provenance with a label showing where it had been in Bristol. Circa 1860.

The Meyer family of clockmakers are recorded in A J Moores'' 'Watch and Clockmakers of Bristol' book as working from 1815-1886. They worked at Redcliffe Street and Barrs Street. The label states that it was at Arnos Court Convent in 1863.
