Description

A 19th century French Vernis Martin mantel clock. The original painted decorations to the case with ormolu mounts to the sides, base and tapered pediment. A gentleman, boy and dog in a country scene to the front and floral decorations to the case sides. An enamel dial with raised Roman numeral edging and 5 minute outer markers with blued steel hands. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours and half hours on a bell by Japay Freres. Circa 1880.

The 'Craquelure' finish of fine hairline cracks are often a feature on this type of clock.
