Description

Here we have a superb Victorian burr walnut piano top pop up davenport. This is a fantastic example of this particular type of davenport. It is veneered in fine burr walnut throughout and it has faded to a beautiful mellow colour as walnut does over time. Upon lifting the piano fall you reveal a slide out writing section with a green tooled leather insert with working lock and key.
To the side there is a pen tray and inkwell. The writing surface rises with the aid of and easel support if required. There are two small storage drawers above. The right hand one houses the trigger mechanism for the pop stationary section above. The pop up section reveals a beautiful fretted fold over stationary compartments in maple this is all capped off by a three quarter brass arcadian gallery.
The lower body has turned and scroll supports with cup turned feet housing it's original working brass castors. There are four dummy drawers to the left and four mahogany lined drawers to the right. The top drawer is stamped Jenks & Holt who manufactured fine quality furniture from Cheapside London. There is also an additional manufacturing label to the underside of the fall. This is a top quality davenport in very original condition.
