Good Scale French Bombe Chinoiserie Japanned Lacquer Commode, c.1900

Of bombe form and inspired by earlier 18th century pieces, this commode features chinoiserie japanned lacquer work, this decoration being used on both the drawer fronts and the sides of the piece. The decoration is of excellent quality and features Chinese figures in an imagined Oriental landscape with pagodas, mountains, bridges and trees. It has ormolu mounts to the trusses, cabriole legs and to the apron and a fine set of rococo handles and escutcheons. The marble top is cream colour with black and grey swirls. It is of a particularly good size and very well proportioned.
