Description

A large and highly decorative antique bronze sculpture of a cowboy riding a bucking horse, after Frederic Remington’s celebrated “Broncho Buster”, one of the most iconic images of the American West.
This is an impressive and well executed early 20th century cast, capturing the drama and movement of the original composition. The rider leans forward with one arm extended, gripping his whip, while the horse rears beneath him in a powerful and animated pose. The sense of motion is excellent, with strong modelling throughout the horse’s musculature and the naturalistic movement of the rider’s clothing.
The detailing is particularly pleasing in the saddle, stirrups and tack, all of which add depth and realism to the piece. The surface has developed a rich dark patina which enhances the definition and gives the sculpture a bold and confident presence.
Frederic Remington’s work helped define the visual identity of the American frontier, and pieces inspired by his sculptures became highly sought after in the early 20th century. Examples of his work have been displayed in prominent public and private collections, including the White House, which adds to the enduring appeal of this subject.
This is a substantial and eye-catching bronze, ideal for a desk, console or library setting, and a piece that immediately draws attention.
Condition
Good antique condition with light surface wear consistent with age. Minor rubbing to the patina in places as expected. Presents very well.
