An exceptional antique English mahogany banquet dining table of outstanding scale and presence, designed to seat 22/24 people comfortably. A rare survival extending to over 5.5 metres, this is a true statement piece suited to large country houses, grand interiors or prestigious boardrooms.
The table displays a beautifully figured solid mahogany top of rich tone and depth, complemented by three original leaves which allow for full extension to its remarkable length. It is raised on four substantial turned pedestal bases with elegant splayed legs, all retaining their original brass castors, essential for both authenticity and practicality at this scale.
The configuration is particularly important, with four pedestals correctly spaced to support the length and weight, ensuring strength, stability and perfect proportion throughout. When fully extended, the table delivers exceptional visual impact while maintaining refinement and balance.
Banquet tables of this scale were commissioned for significant homes and institutional settings where large scale entertaining was essential.
