A FINE ANTIQUE CARVED OAK FIGURE OF MADONNA AND CHILD

This is a large and striking model, very well carved in deep relief, from a single piece of richly coloured oak.

The drapery of the mother's clothes is particularly well done - the folding and tumbling garment deftly and beautifully rendered. The infant holds a fruit in his right hand whilst clasping at the mother's clothing with the other hand, looking upwards towards her face.

This piece has a flat back and was probably designed to go against a wall or was perhaps a component part of a larger screen / arrangement.

Mounted on a later steel rod and into a weathered piece of composite stone, ready to display.

This is a large piece, some 48 cms tall. Overall, including the mount, it stands 59 cms tall. The wine bottle in the shot gives a good impression of the scale.

Some old loss and old minor repairs including a few filled holes from the original mounting, but displaying well. Please contact for more details.

Circa 18th Century and probably French or Flemish in origin.
