Description

AN UNUSUAL ARTS & CRAFTS PERIOD COPPER SHALLOW DISH.

A very charming piece, hand-fashioned from sheet copper and with a beaten and punched quatrefoil design of four pairs of mice feeding, with tails entwined.

The mice, symmetrically arranged and facing each other, hold aloft what seems to be a heaped pile of grain or sugar from which they both feed.

The detail is very fine, the bodies of the diminutive creatures well described and with minute punch-work to the heaped food.

Date: early 20th century.

Unsigned but very much in the style of early copper-work from the Keswick School of Industrial Design, Cumbria or the Cotswold School workshops in Gloucestershire.

23cms diameter.

A super piece and a great gift either for lovers of mice or Arts & Crafts copper!
