Description

A Highly Unusual Vintage Cased Pair of Taxidermy Crows

(Corvus Corone)

by DAVID J. BYTHEWAY

A fascinating example of its type and featuring a highly unusual white (or 'leucistic') crow, perched above its more familiar black counterpart.

Well-presented in naturalistic cased setting, with branches, grasses, mosses and lichen.

This is a wonderful natural history item with a somewhat 'auspicious' look and feel, the contrast in the colouration of these two birds setting each other off to good effect.

The taxidermist's label is in the far top right.

Condition (detailed below) is pretty good for age, with only a few faults.

A superb piece for an interior and absolutely a conversation starter.

Dimensions -

The case 43 cms wide x 20 cms deep x 78 cms high.

Condition -

Generally good for age and the piece displays very well could be enjoyed as is.

There is a small slice of glass away to the lower left corner (please see last photo, where I've pointed this fault out). This isn't too noticeable.

A bit of dust internally to the inside of the pane of glass. There is some settled dust and spores to the some of the feathers, most noticeable on the plumage of the black crow. It's not a huge issue but for it would be possible to open the case up and clean very gently with a soft brush and then reseal, perhaps with a new sheet of glass if desired.

Overall however, it's a lovely piece as is and, as stated, displays very nicely.
