Description

Bronze figure in good condition.

Aparmita (Amitayus) is seated on a lotus pedestal with his hands in meditative gesture (dhyana mudra) holding his identifying attribute, the vase of elixir. Here the hand gesture, representing meditative equipoise, represents the unity of wisdom and compassion.

The Buddha of Infinite Life, he is invoked during rituals associated with the prolonging of life. Aparmita wears regal jewellery consisting of elaborate necklaces, large earrings. His lower garment consists of a long skirt that folds around the knees and onto the lotus seat. His face expresses a state of meditation, with narrowed eyes and an inward gaze.

Handcrafted in Nepal using the Lost Wax process. Typical signs of wear commensurate with age, with weathered surface and patina.

Measures 43cm tall by 26cm wide and 18cm deep
