Victorian Mahogany Longcase Lomax of Blackburn

Description

Beautiful 8 day, hourly (rack) striking longcase clock by John Lomax circa 1800. The case is figured mahogany with swan neck pediment. The trunk with reeded quarter columns and book matched figured mahogany to trunk door. 14" break arch painted dial with moon phases to arch. Flower sprays on green background to corner spandrels and Subsidiary dials for seconds and date.

The movement has been modified from its original movement to include a train od 8 bells which chime the quarter hours. This modification has been done very professionally using a set of Georgian bells probably from a triple Fusee mantle clock and is inscribed with the makers name of Richard Noblett Blackburn 1905. The movement has been fully services and is in perfect working order.

John Lomax of Blackburn Clock and watchmaker recorded born 1749, died 1814.
