A very attractive and useful adjustable open bookcase with a mule-chest base.

The 17th century mule-chest has been adapted in the Victorian era to incorporate the open bookcase to the top, making the bookcase section 19th century.

The ornate protruding cornice has a boldly carved acanthus leaf design, over three robust oak adjustable shelves, also with carved detail to the fronts.

The mule chest base gives a vast amount of storage space, having a lift-up lid with working lock and key, which opens to reveal the original interior. Below are the original oak lined drawers. Lovely richly carved front, with panelled sides. Large flattened bun-feet to the front of the chest, with ogee bracket feet to the back.

The shelves can be adjusted to many different heights. This section lifts off the base for ease of moving.

In excellent antique condition.

Very solid sturdy and strong.
