Description

Antique Oak Secretaire Bookcase c1870-90

This is a lovely solid oak secretaire bookcase with closed upper bookcase section and four adjusstable shelves surmounted by an ogee cornice to the top. The original key fits the upper bookcase section and the lower cupboard section which has one single shelf that will come out if needs be. The lower section is set on a large plinth base and the cupboard doors are heavily carved as you can see. The key to the secretaire section is sadly missing. The central secretaire pulls out by its handles then there are two thumb catches top left and right for the central section to flap down to provide a writing and working section. The drawers have mahogany handles and are ash fronted. The leather has been changed but is as close to the original colour as we could source. It has central pigeon holes flanked by two full height pigeon holes. It splits into two section, that being upper and lower with the drawer being removable for delivery purposes. It is a great thing and soo stylish and solid. A really good and practical thing that is a statement in itself.
