Description

This is an Antique Georgian flame Mahogany Breakfast or Snap top table c1820-40.  It is raised on a tirform base with swept legs and reeded decoration surmounted with brass castors with acanthus leaf decoration.  There is a single turned central column supporting the main top.  The top can be put vertically for storage and palced in the side of a room as decoration as the Georgians used them and folded flat when needed.  Commonly called a Breakfast table it is also called a Snap top as they snap open and closed on a pair of brass screws as hinges and a large brass locking latch.  The grain on the top is wonderful and has good patination.
