Description

This is a 19th Century antique gilt and painted armchair bearing the rare makers stamp of Jacob Cohen. This piece features beautifully scrolled arms terminating in lions paws and is raised on four scimitar legs. the basketwork seat has a green watersilk squab cushion.

Biography:-
Jacob Cohen. London chairmaker (1808 - 1828). At 9 Little Somerset Street, Whitechapel in 1808 and 45 Great Prescott Road and Goodman's Fields 1817 - 1828. From 1822 he added the trades of upholsterer, cabinet maker and appraiser to his existing business (Source Dictionary of English Furniture makers 1660 - 1840).
