Description

This is an extremely handsome large oval tapered brass bound bucket.
It has 2 grab handles and would have been intended for lifting by 2 people when in use. Even empty it is heavy.

It is very well made of coopered stave construction, bound by its original heavy brass bands, screwed and welded. The lowest band has had 2 old patch brass repairs.

Its difficult to say for certain what this was used for but the quality suggest it was probably for a large domestic residence - perhaps like a plate bucket - for moving items between the dining room and scullery for example.- Ice, bottles, logs ?

The wood looks like padauk - it is hard, heavy, and has no worm.
Condition: Excellent. Heavy patination.
