Description

This is a quality period Georgian Toilet Mirror, of Sheraton design. Circa 1790.

The Shield shaped mirror frame is faced in cross grained mahogany, and has boxwood stringing around its outer edge.
The silvered mirror plate is quite possibly original. There is some wear, marks and small spots of loss to the silver but it remains sound and in good usable condition.
The pine backboard is original and retains its original pin fixings.

The base is of a serpentine design with a flat centre panel. It has two drawers, and is veneered in choice flame figured mahogany with boxwood stringing. It is inset with fine marquetry oval plaques of shell design to the top and front.

The drawers have wafer thin mahogany linings and are of finely cut dovetail construction.

The mirror supports are of solid mahogany, and beautifully shaped to follow the shield outline of the mirror and offer good tension support via the brass screws.
The design is complemented and highlighted with fine bone paterae and handles, and a brass urn finial
