Description

A fantastic original oil on canvas by the well known marine artist B.JPhillips. The painting is presentd in a nice ornate gilt frame and displays tall clipper ships on a choppy sea with castle on rocks in the background. The use of colour here is superb. The artist has used a limited palette of pale blue and pink only in delicate washes. He has captures the movement of the sea very well.

Most of Phillips paintings contain ships, Clipper Ships and Tall Ships from that period of Maritime History we call ‘The Great Age of Sail’. The Clipper ships were the workhorses that carried the goods that fuelled the expansion of world trade and emigration for a period of just 100 years. But, although being just a tool, they have left us a lasting legacy of beauty and adventure.
