Description

This stunning piece is a depiction of the Chinese Taoist deity Shou Xing (God of Longevity)

Hand carved from hard wood, possibly ebony, and inlaid with brass.

This piece contains all the elements that are characteristic of the Shou Zou legend...

He leans on the 'staff of life', with a pumpkin gourd (containing the water of life) tied to it.

He holds the 'Peach of Immortality' in front of him, and is accompanied by a Crane (also a symbol of lengevity)

The top of the Staff now has a modern light fitting attached, and a modern 3 core gold silk flex hangs down, as seen in the pictures.

Dimensions to the top of the light fitting approx 70cm
