Cornish longcase clock by Roberts of Launceston

Description

An excellent example from the County of Cornwall with richly figured flame mahogany veneer throughout the cabinetwork.

The high quality 8 day duration movement with a recoil anchor escapement and striking the hours on a bell. The dial is of the later silvered brass design featuring Roman numerals, seconds, date, matching blued steel hands and the makers name George Roberts of Launceston to the arch.

The cabinetwork veneered with high quality flame mahogany with an original patina and standing on a moulded plinth. The trunk door with a typical pointed top for Cornwall and mahogany quarter pillars. The hood features separate brass capped solid mahogany reeded pillars below a plain broken arch top.

Note: High quality Cornish longcase clocks were made in quite small numbers and are rarely seen in mahogany cases. Both the case design and the plain silvered brass dial give the whole clock an almost contemporary feel. A very desirable and well proportioned Cornish longcase clock.

Height: 6'10½" / C.1820
