The Dewhurst's Cooton company was initially founded in 1798 in a former corn mill at Elslack near Skipton by a Thomas Robert Dewhurst's. He converted the building into a cotton thread manufactury. By 1928 the company had expanded and built the Bellu Vue Mills in Skipton Yorkshire from where Dewhurst's cotton threads were exported across the British Empire. The Sylko brand was introduced in 1897 and became internationally well known for manufacturing high quality cotton threads in more than 500 different shades. The company continued to trade using the Dewhurst's Sylko brand through the 20th century until it was sold to Callco Printers (Tootal) in 1973.
