Description

We have for sale a fabulously decorative piece of furniture a lovely Scottish Edwardian arts and crafts Oak armchair or carver by Joseph Johnstone Ltd of Lochwinnoch in Renfrewshire, near Glasgow.

This lovely imposing, very attractive and very sturdy quartered oak arts and crafts armchair is of a square form consisting of top rail beautifully carved with three art nouveau botanically inspired motifs each of which extend as stems down the length of the three back slats which terminate in a shaped cross rail. The two supports of the back extend from squared finials down towards the angular arms, the seat and then beyond to form swept back legs. The arms are and seat are supported to the front with squared tapered legs that terminate in a squared detail. The underside of the seat front carries the Registered Design No 460348 dating to 1906. The seat is upholstered in an aged brown leatherette which compliments the chair remarkably well.

The chair is 46 inches (116.8cm) high, 22 inches (56cm) deep, 22 inches (56cm) wide and is in a excellent condition other than the aging to the leatherette seat cover.
