Description

Chinese sancai glazed figure of a horse. Sancai decoration uses glazes predominantly in three colours: brown or amber, green or creamy white with the more rare use of blue. While particularly associated with the Tang dynasty tomb figures, this figure is believed to date from the 18th century - the blue glaze shows some iridescence, typical of the period. With a hollow body and open mouth, it may have been designed to be used as a water dropper.
Condition is good for age. One leg has been restored (see photograph)and there is some glaze rubbing and slight crackle.
Height 19 cm, length 18 cm.
