Description

A quite superb example of a William IV fold-over top card table. The top is in beautifully wild grained rosewood, veneered on to dense straight grain mahogany for extra structural integrity. The top rotates and opens to reveal its original maroc tooled leather interior. Below the top is a frieze with profuse carved mouldings, raised on a concave sided stem with further carved mouldings and a lobed collar, on a platform base with carved scroll feet and original castors.

Condition and Details of Restoration

This table is in original untouched condition. The polish has been revived, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner. There are some old marks underneath the polish, particularly to the top, as might be expected on examples of this age. There are obviously some marks to the leather, and a small tear (see detail photograph). In our opinion, the photographs are representative.
