Description

Superior quality William IV period Davenport desk in beautifully figured rosewood, having an ornate pierced brass gallery, above a leather inset fall opening to reveal a satinwood veneered interior of drawers and dummy drawers. This Davenport also features a sliding and hinged pen tray to the right hand side, a bank of four mahogany lined drawers to the right hand side and four dummy drawers to the left, all with brass knob handles, and two turned tapering supporting columns, raised on turned feet with original brass castors. Bears makers’ or retailers’ stamp to the underside of the top drawer, ‘Forster Upholsterers & Cabinetmakers, 9 Gt Portland St, Cavendish Sq.’.

Condition & Details of Restoration
This item is in original structural condition. The polish has been refinished, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner. There are some minor old marks under the polish. The leather inset, while not original, has been in place for some time and bears the marks of use.
