Description

A handsome and super quality George III period mahogany linen press, having an upper section with an over-hung dentil cornice above two panelled doors with astragal mouldings with re-entrant corners, opening to reveal mirror plates to the rear of the doors and an arrangement of five sliding oak lined trays, above a base section of two short and two long oak lined drawers with pressed brass knob handles and raised on club bracket feet.

Width 52” (132cm) Depth 24” (61cm) Height 69” (175cm)

Condition and Details of Restoration:
This linen press is in generally original excellent untouched structural condition, the exceptions being the mirror plates which are later additions and the handles which are Georgian but probably added twenty or thirty years after manufacture. There are some small marks caused by the original handle holes (see detail photograph of drawer front). The polish has been revived, by our own craftsmen, by hand in the traditional manner. There are some minor shrinkage cracks and old marks underneath the polish as might be expected on an example of this age, as can be seen from the photographs.
