Description

A really charming example of a late nineteenth century Grand Tour souvenir from the Swiss village of "Andermatt" in the Alps.

The inkwell features an adorable and very handsome St. Bernard, beautifully hand carved and retaining his two original glass eyes. He also has the original brass collar and chain, all standing on a naturalistic base.

Part of this base is the tree stump which is in fact the inkwell. The top is hand-painted, identifying it's historic beginnings in the Swiss Alps. There is a concealed button to the front which releases the lid in-turn, there is a lidded secure inkwell within, the lever to the right then releases the lid revealing the glass ink chamber within.

Late Victorian in era, this collectible gem remains in excellent condition. 8 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 4 3/4" tall.
