Description

A wonderful nineteenth century pen nib box made from brass, with an all-over embossed decoration, the box being in the form of a book with the spine inset with a nib.

The sides of the "book" are textured and suggests for striking matches, I would expect that sealing wax would have been stored in the box and the match used to melt the wax.

D. Leonardt & Co. was originally founded in Frederick Street, Birmingham by Diedrich Leonardt in 1856, in the area now known as the Jewellery Quarter.

The rear of the box has an English design registration number, showing this to be registered in 1872.

Excellent condition, measuring 2 1/2" x 2" x 1".
