Description

A wonderfully different pair of Scottish made binoculars made by J. Lizars of Glasgow and London. The J. Lizars company was founded in 1830 by the optician John Lizars (1810-1879) in Glasgow, Scotland.

The firm continued under the same name and this pair would have been made around 1900 / 1920.

The mechanism is most unusual, the barells are pulled out and focused with both the main wheel and the upper aluminium wheel. The bridge is engraved Wm Geo Bassett, I am unsure if this was the retailer or the original owner.

Great optics and in lovely condition measuring 4 3/4" x 2 1/4" x 5 1/4" expanding to 6 5/8".
