Description

A very special three bottle tantalus, Victorian in era and unusually made in Rosewood and beautifully decorated with exceptional marquetry inlay.

The three decanters are the larger sized full pint decanters each measuring 3 3/4" square x 9 1/4" tall, each hand-cut with the ever-popular hobnail cut.

Another unusual feature of this tantalus, is the way it is opened. The key turns and releases the "drawer" which pulls out and allows access to the three decanters.

The original engraved label is intact for the well renowned retailer / silversmith, Mappin & Webb this model was named "The Cabinet" and is lucky enough to have an English design registration number (6299) which allows us to date it exactly to 1884.

A really unusual and impressive piece in excellent condition measuring 16" x 6 1/4"x 13 1/4" tall to the top of the handle.
