Description

A fabulous English Trinity House box, always highly sought-after with their nautical theme and romantic story. These Trinity House boxes were made by Lighthouse owners (often in the Portsmouth area of the UK) and sold to owners and Captains of the ships.

This one is made from beautiful burl Walnut with a Walnut panel to the front, both the lid and front surrounded by inlaid parquetry or Tunbridge Ware borders. The top is inlaid with a majestic clipper ship with another in the distance.

The interior is fitted with a removable tray, the compartment lids all inlaid, the tray is fitted for a combination of jewelry and sewing surrounding a central pin cushion. All of the original paper lining remains intact. The interior of the lid has been decorated with paper lace (the piece in the bottom left hand corner is missing), surrounding a central decoupaged picture of HRH The Prince of Wales, later to be Edward VII.

A stunning example in excellent condition measuring 13" x 9" x 5 3/4" tall. Complete with working tasseled key.
