Description

A magnificent and rare early nineteenth century tea caddy, you just can't imagine the amount of work that went into it's decoration. The overall design is of Oak leaves and acorns covering the caddy on all sides. On the top is a fabulous central panel I believe of Edinburgh from the rural outskirts.

The box has a wooden hinge running the width of the caddy, a typically Scottish styled hinge. The box opens to reveal a superb fitted interior with the original fabric lining the lid with tufts. The two wooden removable canisters are decorated with a classical border and wiggle work to the centre. One would have contained black tea and the other, Green Tea, the two teas would have been blended in the central (original) cut glass mixing bowl then transferred to a teapot.

A highly collectible box dating to around 1820 in superb condition. 12 1/2" x 6 1/4" x 5 3/4" tall.
