Wall memorial to Walter Moyle, housed in the church of St Mary’s, Brentmead Gardens, West Twyford, Ealing, Greater London, NW10.
The chapel contains some good wall monuments, largely to the Moyle family. These include, on each side of the east window, busts of Walter Moyle (d. 1660) and his father Robert (d. 1638). Each is set in a pedimented aedicule with an inscription below and crest above.
There is a slab at the west end of the nave which reads: “Here lies Walter Moyle esq and his two little sons Robert and Francis 1660 – West Twyford church Middlesex.”
The church probably stands on the site of the medieval parish church or chapel, adjacent to the manor house which was later known as Twyford Abbey. A church was first recorded at Twyford in 1181, and in the medieval period was linked with the manor, which in turn was owned by St Paul’s Cathedral. In 1636 the manor was acquired by the Moyle family who appear to have rebuilt or remodelled the church in the C17.
Walter Moyle 1628-1660 was the son of Robert Moyle d. 1638 and Margaret d. 1673-4 daughter of Anthony Oldfield of Spalding by Margaret Reade of Pinchbeck.
Walter married 1653/4 Mary, daughter of Sir Robert Stapleton d. 1635 and Catherine d. 1667 daughter of Sir Thomas Fairfax of Walton and Gilling Castle.

Latin inscription roughly translated reads:
Walter Moyle of West Twiford (Twyford) in the Middle Saxon territory, esquire, who was withering in the flower of his age (his beloved son Robert died) in the hope of eternal happiness and the unfailing love of his relationship with his king He succumbed to fate and mortality on May 24, the year of human salvation 1660, when he had numbered 31 years of age, two sons of Walter and Arthur and Margaret, daughter Robert Stapleton of Wihill, (Wighill) in the county of York, the esquire, leaving some survivors, who, covered with tears and tears, took care to be placed widowed by all worldly joy, this mournful husband to her most loving husband.”
