Description

This is a very fine example of an antique Soumakh carpet from the Caucusus region which dates from around 1890. The Soumakh technique creates a flat weave tapestry type of carpet which is both beautiful and strong. This carpet has beautifully muted colour palette with soft terracotta and indigo being the main colours. The terracotta field has repeat medallion pattern of stylised geometric flowerheads enclosed by pretty zigzag borders. The carpet is in extremely good condition for its age with a few very light wear areas, complete ends and selvedges.
It is a really good room size measuring 366 cms by 216 cms.
