This is a delightful hand coloured 18th century portrait of cupid engraved by the sculptor Thomas Ryder in the late 1700s from the original painting by Richard Cosway R.A.
Cosway was a leading English portrait painter of the Regency era most noted for his miniature paintings. This engraving originates from the painting of Master Oswald Fawcett as cupid painted around 1790. The engraving is in super condition with lovely soft muted colours and framed is in a good circular frame with an attractive antiqued patination to the gilding. The title "Love" is pasted to the reverse together with an old sales label. The portrait measures 17 cms in diameter overall including the frame.
