Description

This is a good pair of antique hand coloured 18th Century engravings by Francesco Bartolozzi, (1727-1815). Bartolozzi was an accomplished Italian engraver who worked in London for more than 40 years and was appointed engraver to the King in 1768. The engravings are depicting “Venus instructing Cupid” and “Cupid Wounded” and have exquisite detail with beautiful hand applied colour. These are in their original gilded circular frames which are in good original order and compliment the works beautifully. The labels verso show these to have been published in January 1794 by A.C. Poggi. 91 New Bond Street London.
The engravings appear to have never been out of their frames in over 200 years.
The frames measure 31 cms in diameter.
