Description

This is a stunning 8 Day longcase clock by William Turnbull of Newcastle dating from circa 1760. The clock has a wonderful deep red chinoiserie case decorated with oriental figures in landscape with pagodas and buildings. The case has a wonderful rich colour and beautiful gilding.
The clock has an impressive pagoda pediment with hand carved and gilded urns issuing flames as finials and a 12 inch arched brass and silvered dial with seconds hand a date aperture and the maker's signature. This has a five pillar movement with an anchor escapement and strikes on a bell on the hour every hour. The clock is in excellent running order keeping good time.
This clock has lovely proportions measuring 252 cms in height 49 cms wide by 23 cms deep.
