Description

This is a delightful original portrait miniature of Juliette Recamier a French socialite who’s salon drew Parisians from the leading Political and literary circles of the early 19th century. Madame Recamier promoted herself as a persona of great beauty and her fame spread quickly across Europe. She befriended many intellectuals and artists of the age who were all keen to paint her portrait thus adding to her fame and prosperity.

She even reputedly turned down an offer of marriage from Prince Augustus of Prussia. The painting is beautifully executed in gouache and is signed by the artist Sonia.

The frame measures 10 cms by 7 cms overall.
