Description

This is a beautiful 19th century, Meiji period Japanese Shodana cabinet with wonderful Lacquer panels inlaid with stunning Shibayama detail. The cabinet dates from around 1870 and is beautifully decorated with finely hand carved panels throughout that are all in excellent condition. The lacquered panels are all attractively gilded with hand painted cranes in flight over mountainous landscape as well as leaf and flower designs. Many of the birds and flowers are in hand carved bone and mother of pearl as well as beautifully polished abalone shell in typical Shibayama form.

This has a really decorative shape with a lovely curved leg base and corresponding carved dragon scrolls to the top.

The cabinet is a very decorative piece and a nice size measuring 104 cms wide 164 cms high by 32 cms deep.
