Description

This is a beautiful bronze figure of Flying Mercury after the original by Giambologna (1519-1608)
Flying Mercury is a bronze sculpture made by Giambologna in or around 1580 that was much admired for its elegant depiction of the illusion of weightlessness. The master of fluidity and upward motion settled in Florence where he became a favourite sculptor of the Medici’s. He received a Papal commission for the statue of Neptune in Bologna and is lauded for other masterpieces as the Abduction of a Sabine Woman and The Rape of Prosperina sculpted in marble in 1622.

The statue is good original condition and measures 68 cms in height by 28 cms wide with the base being 13 cms in diameter.
