Description

This is set of four unusual and very characterful hand coloured engravings of monkeys, 'Macaque', 'Lemico', 'Talapoin' and 'Douc', by Jacques de Seve.
Jacque de Seve (fl. 1742 to 1788) was a French illustrator who was commissioned by George Louis Leclerc, Compte de Buffon to provide illustrations for 'Histoire Naturelle, Generale et Particulaire (1749-1778, 36 volumes). They were engraved by Louis Le Grand. The engravings are all in very good condition and are attractively framed and set in multi sectioned marbled mounts which completment the images beautifully.
Each frame measures 44 cm by 53 cm.
