Description

This is an exceptionally fine Hereke carpet from Turkey which dates from the early 20th century. The carpet has an unusual and very lovely colour palette which includes warm sienna red, duck egg blue and a golden sand shade. Hereke carpets are known for the fine quality of their weaving and also the artistry of their intricate and beautiful designs. This carpet has a very pleasing two way tree of life design with an ornate flowerhead medallion within the flower filled sienna field and branching trees at both ends. Enclosed by soft golden spandrels and pretty soft blue floral borders, the carpet is a rare example of its type. The carpet is in good clean condition with a little wear to the fringes and selvedges and the pile is good and even throughout.
The rug is quite a good size for an Hereke measuring 249 cms by 156 cms.
