Screw Back Philadelphia Watch Case Co Gold Plated Case.
The hands are lever set. To set the time, unscrew front, pull out the lever at 1 o'clock and turn winder. Remember to push lever back in before replacing the front.
To access the movement, unscrew the back.
Take care to avoid cross threading when refitting the front.
On the back of the case is a steam locomotive emblem and the initials BLFE.

BLFE stands for Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman and Enginemen.
This watch would have been produced for the members of the BLFE, an organisation representing some railway workers in the USA.

Brief history of the BLFE:
The Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen was founded on December 1, 1873, at Port Jervis, New York, to provide mutual support for railroad firemen. The Brotherhood initially emphasized insurance, but by the late nineteenth century had branched out into labor-management relations.
At the turn of the century, the organization changed its name to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen (BLFE) after permitting engineers to join its ranks. In 1969, the union merged with the Order of Railway Conductors and Brakemen, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, and the Switchmen's Union of North America to form the United Transportation Union.

Approximate dimensions: diameter 50mm, weight 90.2 grams.
The dial has a chip at 6 but it is covered by the bezel so is only visible when the case front is removed. The rest of the dial is in great condition with no cracks or hairlines.
The engine turned design on the case is still very clear and attractive.
The movement has been serviced and is working well.
Movement guaranteed for 12 months.
A high quality antique American watch with an unusual link to the American railways.
