Description

This highly decorative pair of mid 19th century Raj period Indian ceremonial bowls is very unusual. They are made from dense red hardwood turned by hand on a simple pole lathe and then intricately brass mounted with ornately engraved bands, roundels and motifs secured in place with brass nails. In addition, the bases are also finished in brass which is engraved with a single flower head. These bases are also nailed except steel nails have been used on this occasion.

The bowls are most eye catching with almost a classical look to their design and decoration.

One bowl is slightly larger than the other.

Indian, circa 1860

Dimensions of the largest bowl:

Height 11cm x width 15cm x depth 15cm

£675 pair
