Description

This fine ceremonial ewer was made at the end of the 19th century and originates from the north Indian or Tibetan region. It is made in a very elegant form from plain patinated copper and white metal most likely low grade silver (not tested). The white metal is all beautifully detailed with hand crafted repousse work which is hand beaten decoration raised and chased with a hammer, punches and chisels and finely finished with engraved detailing. This is very skilled work. The decoration on the spout, handle and body is all in the form of a dragon with foliate decoration to the foot and cover. On the underside of the foot is a small original handwritten paper label with character marks. The ewer is in good original condition with a pleasing age related patina.
