Description

A fine and highly decorative mid-19th century French Louis XV style fold-over card or games table, dating to circa 1850, of elegant serpentine form and beautifully veneered in richly figured burr walnut.

The shaped fold-over top opens to reveal a baize-lined playing surface, making the piece both practical and visually striking. The serpentine frieze is raised on graceful cabriole legs, embellished with ornate gilt metal mounts and sabots in the Rococo taste, enhancing its distinctly French decorative appeal.

The burr walnut veneers display particularly attractive figuring and warm colour throughout, with the shaped outline and flowing proportions giving the table exceptional elegance from every angle. When closed, it serves beautifully as a sophisticated occasional or centre table when opened, it becomes a practical and charming games table.

A stylish and versatile antique, ideal for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Presented in good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with period use.

Circa 1850
