Description

A handsome late 18th century 8-day oak longcase clock, signed on the silvered dial by James Crabb of Salisbury, a respected provincial clockmaker. The dial features bold Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, a date aperture, and decorative gilt spandrels, all framed within a well-proportioned oak case of simple, elegant design. The hood is surmounted by a flat pediment with turned columns, while the trunk and base are of clean, restrained lines, typical of the period.

The weight-driven movement strikes the hours on a bell and is complete with pendulum and original weights. Circa 1790.
